Have you tried hair extensions? My friend Abida was dying to try the trend and now believes it’s the best thing that’s happened to her (after her three beautiful children of course). The hair extensions created such a transformation that strangers have stopped her to say how fabulous she looks. Friends do a double take. She just whips that hair and we all go wild. Who would think a little extra hair would make this beautiful gal even hotter than she already is?
This January, Chrissy White, owner and stylist at White House Salon in St. Louis, invited us to learn about hair extensions. Chrissy educated us on how hair extensions are applied, styled, and cared for. Hiring a knowledgeable stylist and properly caring for your extensions is what keeps your hair healthy and damage-free. During the application, Chrissy’s thoroughness put Abida at ease. And after seeing the final outcome, Chrissy’s expertise was obvious. Just take a look at Abida’s hair before and after the treatment.
Extensions lengthen and add volume. Notice that Abida’s hair fell mid-chest in the before picture. In the after, it falls below her chest. Additionally, in the after picture, the extensions add a healthy volume. When you see her in person, the added length and volume makes her appear sleeker and more styled. Would you believe that it actually takes her less time to style her hair now? That’s incredible considering she has naturally wavy hair.
Chrissy offers four types of extensions created by Donna Bella Hair described here from most permanent to least. Kera-Link (or Fusion) extensions are fused into your hair with a heat styling tool, take 2 to 3 hours to apply, and last 2 to 4 months. I-Link extensions are installed using small beads, take 1 to 2 hours to apply, and last 3 to 6 months. Tape-Ins come with adhesive already attached, take 30 minutes to 1 hour to apply, and last 3 to 6 months. Clip-In extensions are for those who don’t want to commit. Single clip-ins are great for a pop of color. Clip-Ins take 5 to 15 minutes to apply and last 6 to 12 months. All extensions are reusable, but vary on times they can be reused.
The hair comes from India and has never been chemically processed. Manufacturers ensure that the hair is cut in such a way that follicles face the same direction to prevent tangles, qualifying it as “Remy hair”. The hair is then stripped of its color, dyed, and infused with conditioners and moisturizers. This process prevents bleeding or fading and protects from harsh chemicals. 39 colors are available in 4 styles.
Abida decided to try the Kera-Link extensions. Prior to the appointment, she used a clarifying shampoo and arrived with naturally dried hair. The full application took 2 to 3 hours for her medium thick chest-length hair.
Chrissy first flat-ironed Abida’s hair to make the application process smoother. She left her hair parted in a T-shape, piling hair from the crown on top and leaving a 1-inch parting down at the nape.
Follow Up with Abida
Major transformation. To tell you that people love her extensions would be an understatement. Her hair is the first thing that people notice and comment on. There is a huge wow factor that wasn’t there before. Must be nice to hear all those compliments, right?
