Some of you may already be aware of Zardozi Magazine, a modern North American guide to South Asian fashion, lifestyle and culture. We provide a resource for South Asians living abroad to see and hear women like themselves reflected in the pages before them. Surprisingly most of the magazines in North America focus on weddings. But we have ventured outside the box to include stories that provide a 360 approach to the modern South Asian woman.
As the Creative Director for the magazine, I enjoyed designing this issue immensely. With each issue, I get to learn about the amazing things that South Asian women and industry insiders have accomplished, often outside the box of traditional careers like medicine, law and engineering. It’s a wonderful affirmation that my partners Alisha C Sanghera and Rina C John and I have chosen a creative path that is rewarding not only to us, but also to our readers.
Even if you are not South Asian, you will still divine beautiful inspiration from the East/West styles we feature to the beauty tricks of celebrity hair & make-up artist Namrata Soni and the humorous, yet pointed art of Hate Copy illustrator Maria Qamar. We also showcase gorgeous weddings including one all the way across the world in Jaipur, India complete with an auto rickshaw, groom on a horse and a palatial backdrop.
In addition to supplementing our work on Zardozi, we plan to further the “Zardozi Gives” initiative by donating to the Sundara Fund, which promotes wellness, female empowerment and hygiene around the world, including South Asia. You may have already heard of it as I have written about it on Bangles & Bungalows. It’s truly a wonderful thing to be able to make a difference through the pages of Zardozi.
I hope that you’ll support Zardozi and check it out. Each issue is a labor of love for my team and I. I hope you see that shine through its pages. Click here to read it online as our gift to you.
