Trench to Tunic

I’m so used to wearing traditional South Asian clothing like salwar kameez or saris to fancy functions or weddings. So it’s refreshing to wear something slightly different. And the other guests definitely took note of this east/west style. This traditional kurta or tunic designed by Ritu Jain Singh, one of my favorite Jaipur designers, is inspired by the classic trench coat. With its tie-front waist, in-seam pockets, and thigh high slit, it definitely has the feel of a jacket, but the look of something a bit more regal. The lustrous cotton satin linen is embellished with handmade buttons that sit right where a trench coat’s buttons might.

For an edgier look, I paired the tunic with leather leggings and a studded bag. I chose to add traditional pearl earrings to bring out the pearl embellishments in the buttons. This versatile tunic also comes in cobalt, grey and red. Shop the tunic at http://www.ritujainsingh.com and find several other gorgeous dresses and tops.
