Central West End Living + $500 Giveaway Basket

Celebrated for its exceptional restaurants, independent retailers, and exciting nightlife, the Central West End (CWE) is constantly evolving. I had a chance to explore some of its hot spots, including the up and coming area of CWE around Laclede and Sarah streets. The team at 4101 Laclede, new Central West End luxury condos, took a group of local bloggers and me on a walking tour of the area. We rediscovered why the CWE is still one of the top places to live in St. Louis.

Our tour started out at Retreat Gastropub, which is located right across the street from the Central West End new construction site for 4101 Laclede. I wanted to try this spot for a while so I jumped at the chance to check it out. On my must eat list is the fried french toast with a side of caramel. So delicious!

Central West End Highlights

Our next stop on the grand tour was the World Chess Hall of Fame. I have only played chess a couple of times in my life and I can’t wrap my head around all of the smart strategy required to play it. But I can appreciate how gorgeous chess boards are. And St. Louis just happens to be a hub for all of this fascinating chess memorabilia. Who knew? Bonus: There’s a life size chess board outside that people love to play with day or night.

Kit & Ace

The CWE features some of the city’s best boutiques curated with fine quality goods. We stopped by Kit & Ace, known for soft cashmere blends, for some heavy touchy feely action. When it’s that soft, I have to get my hands on it. Tip: On the weekends, the Nintendo Wii is out so you can brush up on your Mario Kart skills.

Centro Modern Living

We also visited Centro to check out some of the city’s finest modern furnishings. They carry iconic pieces including Eero Saarinen’s tulip chair and table, the Eames chair, and the Sacco bean bag. Tip: Ask and you shall receive! Centro has access to a wide variety of colors and fabrics, which you may not find at larger chain stores.

4101 Laclede

Central West End LivingOn our final stop, we toasted to the grounds of the future 4101 Laclede residences. The property will include 54 modern, luxury townhomes and condominiums. If you are looking for proximity to the Cortex, BJC Hospital, Washington University Medical School, and SLU, this is the place for you! For those who love the modern life, you can enjoy open-concept living with spacious walk-in closets, soaring 10-foot ceilings, and balconies with gorgeous city views. If you are relocating to the city, I cannot say enough good things about this area. This part of the CWE is up and coming and I am excited to see how it grows.
