Last Saturday, Alive Magazine celebrated the best of St. Louis at the annual Hot List Party. Festivities took place at Cortona at Forest Park, also named Best City Living on 2014’s Hot List. To simulate the finer lifestyle Cortona had to offer, Alive Magazine invited me to set up one of Cortona’s beautiful apartments for the party. I teamed up with designer Mike Wyrock of I.O. Metro, a lifestyle furnishing retailer specializing in modern eclectic furniture, art and accessories for the home. Mike has a Masters from Washington University in Urban Design and Architecture and has worked with I.O. Metro since it opened in St. Louis in 2011. What I love about I.O. Metro is that they offer complimentary design service. Mike can help you design your dream space by setting you up with a space plan, decor selection and fabric/color coordination.

Hopeton Lamp $249 (discount $175*) / Art Contrast $399 (discount $280*) / Neeson Dresser $999 (display dresser $599)

The space we chose was a studio — apartment S1 (floor plan) — which starts at $1025. At 525 square feet, the studio has ample space and with 10 foot ceilings, it feels even larger. Based on Mike’s design choices, we settled on a “transitional modern” look. With sleek furniture, dark woods and bright pops of color, the studio became a gender neutral space that anyone could see themselves in. The headboard below balances traditional and contemporary design with its ornate carvings, chocolate brown wood and sharp lines.

Easton Queen Bed $749 / Kendrick Duvet $199 / Isla Sham $35 / Queen Duvet Insert $199 /  Perplexed Pillow $89 (discount $63*)
Green Aloe Stem $12 / Gray Urchin Bowl (similar) $49 (discount $35*)

My two favorite pieces in the apartment are the grey sofa chaise and the metallic cowhide. Details like silver nailhead trim and metallic spray paint help reflect light and make the space brighter. I also love a sofa chaise to lounge on — and it was surprisingly easy to fit into a studio apartment. There are many more decor items in the space so visit Cortona to see the complete design for yourself! If you are interested in purchasing any of the pieces on display or need design assistance, reach out to Mike Wyrock at [email protected]. I.O. Metro is also running a 30% discount this week on many of their accessories.* Visit the store across from the Saint Louis Galleria at 11 The Boulevard St. Louis, Richmond Heights, MO 63117.

Devore Cowhide $799 (display cowhide $560)

The Hot List Party this year will definitely be a “hot topic” for weeks to come. It was a tremendous success with Hot List winners in food & shopping sharing samples of their wares. I finally had a chance to try Seoul Taco and let me say I have been missing out. Try their steak taco! The music was bumping with a rotating list of deejays and a live jazz band. And of course it was set amidst the beautiful Cortona courtyard and three-tiered pool featuring cabanas, a lap pool, sauna and tanning ledge. I was definitely tempted to take a dip, but the conversation around the pool kept me refreshed. The crowd at Alive parties is always an interesting mix of the top creatives in town and a great opportunity to network, make new friends and see beautiful people.
