After 20 years of designing Indian couture, JJ Valaya found home décor to be a natural extension of his brand. In Winter 2014, he debuted the Valaya Home Experience Center in New Delhi. For those who seek the ultimate in luxury interiors, Valaya Home seduces you with its rich tapestries, gilded furniture, Italian marble, and stunning chandeliers fit for no less than royalty. The first in-store experience of its kind in the country, Valaya Home transports its customers to a magical world where India and Morocco collide. Walk through the space, and you feel like you are at home in another realm – an ancient exotic paradise.
Valaya Home originally began with a line of tapestries in 1996. In early 2014, JJ Valaya incorporated The Home of the Traveler, which sells curated items hand-picked from all over the world. And in late 2014, he launched a 6000 sq ft space in New Delhi known as the Valaya Home Experience Center showcasing pieces all conceived by the designer himself.
Valaya is a firm believer in historic research, visible in his couture designs. He found inspiration for the first Valaya Home collection in ‘The Nautch of Fez,’ which blends Moroccan themes with the era of Indian Nautch girls. The diverse décor line touches on six different communities that invaded Morocco throughout history including the Spanish, Arabs, Turks, locals Berbers and a community that discovered the color purple, a well integrated color this season. Additionally, finding beauty in contradiction is an overarching theme in his work. He says that for any space to exhibit character and depth, the past and present must coexist.
Rich on heritage, heavy on opulence, and a believer in timeless design, JJ Valaya has created the ultimate home experience that will transport you back in time with all the luxury and comfort of the present.
