Mix It Up in an H&M Tunic Dress

As soon as I saw this H&M tunic dress, I thought three things: 1) at $25 it’s a steal,  2) a great layering piece for fall and 3) it would look perfect cinched with a contrasting brown belt and boots. In fact H&M has quite a few inexpensive tunic dresses that you can wear on their own, with tights or over skinny jeans. Simple tunics can be styled multiple ways, but for fall, I had to get my boots on for the first time this season. I forgot how much I love my flat brown boots — comfortable and stylish.

The print on my tunic dress reminds me of this black and white Madewell dress I posted on my wish list last week. While the latter is $168, buying this H&M tunic at $25 was a no-brainer. The second exciting purchase was this brown belt to cinch the dress. I got it on sale for 50% off at Banana Republic. This belt solves that cinching problem we all have: when you tie your dress mid-way, oftentimes there is too much belt leftover that needs to be tucked in. With this belt, nothing hangs over.

Finally, the look needed a little something extra to take it from basic to bold. So I added a black and white coin scarf I found a couple years ago at BCBG. This scarf elevates basic outfits, especially those that are black and white. Alternatively I would have added a long colorful pendant necklace and paired this with skinny jeans and platform heels. How do you style your tunics?
