Buffalo plaid, windowpane, tartan, tattersall — checked prints are everywhere. The squared print is currently one of my favorite fashion trends. I’ve got plenty of plaid pieces to fill my closet and now I’ve found my plaid décor fix as well. The latest collection from Unison Home heavily features the windowpane print (my personal plaid favorite) in the classic color combination of black and white.
Unison Home is for the decorator who adores modern design in simple, everyday patterns. Alicia Rosauer and Robert Segal founded the company in 2006 and based it in Chicago, IL. The husband and wife team began their careers at Marimekko, the well-known Finnish design firm. Segal’s parents were the founders of Crate & Barrel so selling fabric and décor is in his blood.
The company collaborates with independent artists and designers who support their philosophy of clean, functional American design. The various parts of the production process, including sewers in Chicago and fabric printers in Rhode Island, are based in the U.S. This allows the team to oversee most details of their production. It’s easy to make changes to their line like adding a new pattern or sending back a fabric that doesn’t work. They can also ensure that safe labor practices and responsible manufacturing are followed.
