Last Friday I was invited to attend an exclusive book signing with Emily Giffin. It was an opportunity to see fashion meet fantasy as Emily dished on her latest novel, The One & Only, with Neiman Marcus.
I have read three of Emily’s books including Something Borrowed, Something Blue and Love the One You’re With. I remember reading her first novel, Something Borrowed, in less than 36 hours. The reason it was such a page turner was because the author wrote her characters with incredible emotional authenticity. You were drawn to them and the journey they were taking. Despite their flaws, you wanted them to succeed.
Naturally I was excited to meet her in person, discover what inspires her and learn more about her writing process. Emily says her writing is inspired by the people she meets and the conversations they have together. Her books begin on a general premise like what would happen to the one that got away. She enjoys writing about flawed characters because they are more interesting. If you put them in an unsympathetic situation, you are more likely to root for them.
Check out The One & Only, available now at Left Bank Books for $28.
